Human natures
horizon has a little visibility. The questions about natures
tolerance in relation to permanent polluting aggressions as well as
the huge energy and natural resources waste could transform the planets
life as a nuclear war would.
It is worrying and convenient to point out that from one half to two
halves of the total energy that is produced in the world is lost or
dissipated in the atmosphere as result of unnecessary friction.
In presence of this, there is an answer: World Tribology Society,
that groups scientists, technicians, professionals and academics has
now 4,200 members from around the world.
In the last few days, Mr. Phil Miller, President of the STLE and Edward
Salek, Executive Director of the STLE. They introduced plans and specific
projects in order to foster Tribology in Mexico and Iberoamerica.
Of recent creation in Mexico, the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication
Engineers, represented by Miguel González Bonnín as
general Director of the STLE, Mexico Section which authorization,
acknowledgement and support were ratified by Mr. Phil Miller, President
of the aforementioned Society of Tribologists, located in Chicago,
Illinois, in an event that was held last December 11 at the Goya Salon
in the Universidad Panamericana.
In this act, the Committees and the Working Plan of the STLE, Mexico
Section were introduced.
With an interesting conference, Mr. Phil Miller pointed out that the
Society of Tribologists was founded in 1944 and currently as representation
in 70 countries, 200 corporate members and 4,200 affiliates including
scientists, technicians, educators, etc.
He emphasized that there is special interest in the participation
of Mexico as a platform to Iberoamerica, in this important mission
in order to disseminate techniques that become employed in technological
development without affecting the ecosystems. He pointed out that
200 billions are annually wasted in energy waste.
The Work Plan introduced by the businessman Miguel González
Bonín, General Director of the STLE, Mexico Section, foresees
program development in energy saving with the purpose to support the
National Commission of Energy Saving (Conae) and Fide (Energy Saving
Trust), encourage regulations in benefit of industry, ecology and
to the community in general; promote and spread the knowledge and
application of tribology in industry; develop research projects in
the field of tribology and be able to gather providing a forum for
the Iberoamerican Community.
He mentioned that there are interesting plans to jointly work with
the Federal and State Government through the Ministry of Energy in
order to support the countrys energetic policy and technological
development. Mexico faces great challenges before the world; be competitive,
modernize and preserve its industrial plant life, avoid energy waste
and everything within an ethical frame in order not to affect the
ecosystems, cornerstone of life quality.
It is not the moment to deliberate but for acting in this responsibility,
which must be shared by the scientific-technological community, society,
corporate entities and the government authorities.
